About EST and PST

EST names Eastern Standard Time, the winter offset of UTC−5 used in New York. PST names Pacific Standard Time, the winter offset of UTC−8 used in Los Angeles. In summer those same regions are called EDT (UTC−4) and PDT (UTC−7).

People search “EST to PST” in every month. The civil-time gap stays three hours when the names change, because both regions follow one US daylight saving calendar. A July conversion is EDT to PDT, and it is still a three-hour gap.

Standard and daylight labels. The converter reads IANA for the date you pick. It does not add these offsets by hand.
Zone IANA Standard Daylight
Eastern Time America/New_York EST (UTC−5) EDT (UTC−4)
Pacific Time America/Los_Angeles PST (UTC−8) PDT (UTC−7)

Scheduling Across EST and PST

8:00 AM EST is 5:00 AM PST, before most West Coast offices open. 11:00 AM EST is 8:00 AM PST, a workable start in Los Angeles and late morning in New York. 6:00 PM EST is 3:00 PM PST, still inside a Pacific workday.

For a standing meeting, 1:00 PM EST (10:00 AM PST) sits in the middle of both office days. Later than 5:00 PM EST is after 2:00 PM PST, which still works, but anything past 8:00 PM EST is after 5:00 PM PST.
